Climate
The coastal region enjoys a Mediterranean climate with hot dry summers and mild winters. In the north and east it is continental, Mediterranean along the Adriatic coast with 2,600 hours of sunlight on average yearly and a semi-highland and highland climate in the south-central region. ?Few navigators can boast of climatic conditions where winds blow gently and steadily from both unsual and wellknown directions, such as the summer mistral, and the winter north and south winds. |

Croatia has a rather peculiar shape that resembles a crescent or a horseshoe which helps account for its many neighbours: Slovenia, Hungary, the Serbian part of Serbia and Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Montenegrin part of Serbia and Montenegro, and Italy across the Adriatic. Its mainland territory is split in two non-contiguous parts by the short coastline of Bosnia and Herzegovina around Neum.
Its terrain is diverse, containing: plains, lakes and rolling hills in the continental north and northeast (Central Croatia and Slavonia, part of the Pannonian plain); densely wooded mountains in Lika and Gorski Kotar, part of the Dinaric Alps; rocky coastlines on the Adriatic Sea (Istria, Northern Seacoast and Dalmatia).
The country is famous for it's many beautiful national parks. Croatia has an amazing 5,800km of coastline, of which 4,000km belong to islands, cliffs and reefs (Zlarin, Zirjz, Skradin, Vodice, Primosten, Drenik, Trogir, Split, Milna, Stari Grad, Hvar/ Palmezana, Rogac, Rogoznica).

Electricity : 220 V. Plugs have two round pins or three round pins for appliances that need to be earthed. If you need adapters or transformers (for USA equipment check things like notebooks or electric razors if they have a switch), inquire in bigger shops with electric supplies or in supermarkets.
The health service is of a good standard. You have to pay for seeing a doctor or being treated in a hospital. Certain countries such as European countries have reciprocal medical arrangements whereby, in principal, you should not have to pay for any emergency treatment. It is therefore useful to wave you passport first and mention this.
No visa necessary for the inhabitants of the European Union.
