A beautiful enclave set in the Mediterranean Sea, the Balearics are famous throughout the world. The capital of the islands, Palma de Majorca, is 130 miles from Barcelona and 140 from Denia. The Balearic islands of Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza, Formentera and Cabrera lie off the eastern coast of Spain, just 60-miles from Valencia. With more than 300 days of sunshine per year, the islands attract a cosmopolitan ambience and hence the Balearics culture has become as varied as the islands themselves. Balearics are steeped in a raw combination of old and new. The history is prevalent in castles, museums and ancient streets, whilst the famous Spanish nightlife, lives on in tapas bars, nightclubs and port side cafes. There’s something for everyone from secluded bays and quaint fishing harbours to smart seaside towns and modern marinas.

In spite of the close proximity of the different islands and the very many common ties between them, each one has its own very different landscape. Majorca has a magnificent coastline consisting of rocky outcrops intermingled with many small coves that offer excellent sandy beaches. Menorca, on the other hand, is noted for its tranquility, while Ibiza has a personality all of its own. Formentera and Cabrera are extremely solitary islands.
Balearics have airports on Palma de Majorca, Ibiza and Mahon with extra flights during the "high season" (July to September).

Ibiza the "Party" Island
The island of Ibiza is the third largest of the archipelago, covering an area of 541 km2, and with a population of over 70,000. Thanks to its hilly terrain the island offers some magnificent scenery of great beauty. World-renown destinations for the exciting nightlife during the high season. Ibiza is most strongly associated, these days, with nightclubs (Amnesia, Pacha, Space...). Quite a crowd descends on their spectacular beaches, which are some of the most beautiful in the world. However, if you visit in the summer, the beaches will be teaming with visitors looking for fun and reveling in the unique Bohemian ambience. Out of season, these islands do offer peace and quiet in which to enjoy the lovely landscapes that abound.

Mallorca
Mallorca, the largest of the Balearic Islands, is also the most popular. Its beaches, sunny weather and dazzling seaside scenery are the main attractions, though it retains a bit more of its traditional flavor than the Costa del Sol, another package-tour haven. The coves of the Balearic Islands are fascinatingly beautiful, but they also hide great dangers. Mallorca is a bustling island with spectacular scenery of contrast between the mountain and the sea.
Palma de Mallorca is the largest and most cosmopolitan city in the Balearics and a most charming seafront city to boot. Its best attractions are an impressive Gothic cathedral, the Old City, Bellver Castle, the Convent of St. Francis and Palacio Vivot. The north is one long cliff of extraordinary beauty and the south is a patchwork of small towns and marinas.

Minorca the Windy Island
Legend tells that the winds of Menorca modify the personality of people. Maybe that is the reason why those who come here once as tourists mostly return ... Menorca certainly has a very strong personality, and a very different one to the rest of the islands. Menorca, the "minor" island, as it was called by Romans, has an almost virginal interior (compared for instance to the "major" island, Mallorca) and shows interesting remains of its old history. On the other hand, Menorca is famous for its beaches with over 120 of them.
